Many GPS installations rely on the finger antenna supplied with the unit, mounted inside the cockpit. However, this can be less than satisfactory and result in a loss of service, as the airframe, the pilot's or passenger's body, or indeed baggage stowed on the aeroplane, can degrade or mask the signal.
The answer is an external antenna positioned so that it has horizon to horizon ‘visibility’ and can make the very best use of all the satellites, even those on a low horizon to horizon trajectory.
The Airworld Skyscan Antenna is an externally mounted, streamlined, low profile AMPLIFIED antenna. It has been introduced to meet the demand from pilots and builders of home-built and permit aircraft for the best possible GPS performance. It is self-contained, easy to fit, and requires no ground plane. The unit is finished in white and weighs approximately 120 grams. The streamlined unit measures just 97 mm x 66 mm, and is 19 mm high. The Magic Mushroom version is just 55 mm in diameter and 13 mm high. Each Antenna is supplied complete with instructions cable and connectors.
