Recent changes to the specifications for motor fuel (Mogas) have resulted in some suppliers adding up to 5% Ethanol (a form of alcohol) to the fuels delivered to petrol retailers. The use of Mogas in aircraft has been permitted for some time, but CAA have forbidden the use of fuel which contains alcohol. This test kit will enable the user to test a sample of Mogas to detect the presence of alcohol.
The kit comprises of 7 sample bottles which are internally coated with a test chemical and a syringe. The syringe is used to put a small sample of the fuel under test into the sample bottle. The bottle is then sealed and shaken for a few minutes.
If alchohol is present in the sample the Mogas will turn a blue or purple colour.
The bottles can be re-used as long as traces of the test chemical remain coated to the inside of the bottle. Positive results do remove some of the chemical, whilst negaitive results remove hardly any.
